Metallica is a heavy metal band from America who started their career as a thrash metal band. They released four thrash metal masterpieces and changed their style in 1991 when they released the Metallica or Black Album, appealing to the wider metal audience. This album became a huge success commercially but costed Metallica the appreciation of their thrash audience, which was never gained back, as Metallica until today insist on playing commercial metal music. However Metallica have played an important role thrash metal and heavy metal music in general, mostly because of their four early thrash metal albums.
